Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 | Mike J.
For almost thirty years, the audio geniuses at Focusrite have been building interfaces using their superb preamps. Their Saffire range was established as an answer to the issue of affordably-priced, quality recording equipment for the home recording market that emerged in the late 80s. Focusrite’s Saffire line mirrors its high-end counterpart, Red, also manufactured by Focusrite.
Call me crazy, but I’m always excited by Firewire – makes me think I can move digital mountains. Before I launch into my top 3 reasons why you should own the Saffire Pro 24 Audio Interface, I will give you the manufacturer’s specs on the product for the music tech egg heads out there.
Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 Front
The Saffire Pro 24 combines Firewire interfacing technology with the exceptional sonic capabilities of Focusrite’s award-winning, low-noise preamps. The mix control software catapults the Pro 24 to the top of its price class to offer a superior audio interface that produces flawless sound and analog to digital flow. The MixControl DSP is a low-latency mixer and router with one-click mix configuration capability and Focusrite’s VST/Au Plug-in Suite sequencer upgrade adds compression, reverb, gating and EQ effects for your recording sessions.
3 Reasons to Choose the Pro 24
I definitely recommend Focusrite’s Saffire Pro 24 audio interface. The first reason is ease of use. Focusrite’s Saffire Pro 24 is designed to add value to your home recording experience without forcing you to spend lots of time routing, setting up, and configuring your hardware. The software is easy to use and works seamlessly with my Mac. I haven’t used the Pro 24 on my PC yet as I’ve had terrible experiences with crashing PCs and audio software (which is why I also own a Mac), but the Saffire Pro 24 MixControl software now works well with Windows 7 64-bit OS. Previous issues have been resolved.
My second reason is sound quality. Focusrite used the word pristine to describe the sound quality of the Pro 24 and I would say that’s about accurate. Very little noise, no disruptions, no pops, clicks or humming sounds. The analog to digital conversion is flawless and really raises the bar for other interfaces in the Pro 24’s price class.
As a years-long Mbox user, I can honestly say that the mic-pres in the Saffire Pro 24 offer better sound quality, though both the Mbox and the Saffire Pro 24 outperform Presonus. The Saffire Pro 24 offers a great selection of input/output options.
My third reason for choosing the Saffire Pro 24 is its flexibility. The interface can be used as a standalone unit without a computer attachment. There are lots of good input/output options for setting up and routing mixes. The unit is stable and reliable and performs well each time, which means it can be used in applications outside of my home studio base, i.e. live applications, mobile work. Plus, the tech support and customer service are stellar so that if you do have a question (I didn’t have one, but wanted to test the waters for you), you can expect someone to get back with you quickly.
Fantastic piece of gear, definitely recommended.
