Focusrite’s Saffire 6 USB audio interface is at the top of its class in quality and affordability.  Right in line with the Focusrite’s reputation for creating high-end audio products the Focusrite Saffire 6 is a high-performer – competes with and outclasses similar mini MIDI/ USB interfaces that offer the same kind of quality at a comparable price.  The Saffire line was created to capture the budding home studio market, offering exceptional quality products at significantly lower prices than the Focusrite’s RED line.  Saffire is for every man.

The Focusrite Saffire 6 is a 24-bit USB interface touting ‘super-low latency’ and top of the line audio quality.  It features two of Focusrite’s award-winning preamps with the 48V phantom power option switchable from the front fascia, four outputs, two Hi Z instrument inputs with switchable gain and a MIDI input/output.  YourFocusrite Saffire 6 interface is completely bus-powered so when you’ve got yourself a nice mobile package to carry to those live performances – no need for adaptors or batteries.

The Focusrite Saffire 6 is a great centerpiece around which to build a home or project studio and its rugged build makes it  a good choice for live applications as well.  Saffire 6 comes with the Xcite + software bundle which includes Ableton Live Lite 8, Novation’s Bass Station synthesizer and over a gigabyte of royalty-free samples. In addition, it comes with Focusrite’s FX Suite, which includes a compressor, gate, reverb and EQ to upgrade your standard AU/VST effects.

Focusrite Saffire 6 USB front and backI’ve used the Mbox as my audio interface for some years now.  I ran it on my Mac and I think we have a pretty good understanding of each other.  The Mbox is comparable overall, but Saffire 6 kicks its butt with latency issues.  My Mbox always sounds like there are at least 2 of us in the room and I’ve just gotten used to it.  I haven’t had that issue with the Focusrite Saffire 6, so…

RIP Mbox .
