Behringer Podcastudio USB Review
Between blogging and podcasting, it’s never been easier to become famous in your own particular niche. For those who think they have the golden pipes and dynamic on-air personality it takes to engage and inform an audience, Behringer has come up with the Behringer Podcastudio USB bundle – your broadcasting career starts in this lovely yellow box.
The Behringer Podcastudio USB can equip you to make quality podcasts and home recordings. The bundle comes with a studio-grade USB audio interface, 5-input mixer, a dynamic microphone (with accessories), headphones and easy-to-navigate DAW and audio software.
UCA200 Audio Interface
The Behringer Podcastudio USB comes ready to plug in with the UCA200 USB interface. The UCA200 is a USB-powered plug and play, high-resolution 2-In/2-Out audio interface that works well with the Windows and Mac operating systems. One thing I always like about any new audio equipment is the plug and play feature – no drivers, no installing, no waiting, no being on the phone with customer service for hours.
XENYX 502 Mixer
Clean, utilitarian, simple, and effective. The Behringer XENYX 502 Mixer offers 5 analog inputs and +48 V phantom powered preamp. The unit has a low noise level making it great for vocal work. A 2-band EQ allows users to warm up the sound, brighten tone and make adjustments as needed. Plus separate CD/Tape and headphone outputs round out the features list.
the HPM1000 dynamic headphones offer a wide range frequency response for clarity in monitoring. These quality full-sized headphones feature a rugged, padded headband for comfort and durability. The large, oval-shaped cushioned ear cups provide excellent isolation and minimal noise leakage. Mixing, recording and monitoring are no problem. The HPM1000s feature a single-sided cord that terminates at a 1/8-inch connector. A ¼-inch adapter is also included.
Ultravoice XM8500 Dynamic Microphone
Headphones, mixer, DAW, interface… it all comes down to the microphone. Something has to capture the signal source and that’s where the Ultravoice XM8500 dynamic vocal microphone comes in, and makes the Behringer Podcastudio USB package complete. Tailor made for broadcasting, this cardioid microphone captures front-sourced sounds and minimizes noises form the sides and back of the microphone. It has a smooth mid-frequency, perfect for vocal work and an extremely high signal output for vocal clarity and authenticity. The wide frequency response makes for a more transparent sound and the shock mount system minimizes handling noises.
Plenty of podcasting software is included like Audacity, Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear, and the programs are compatible with both Mac and PC.
Also bundled is the KRISTAL Audio Engine DAW software, a multi-track recorder, sequencer and mixer that’s perfect for any newcomers to the field.
At around $100, the Behringer’s Podcastudio USB bundle comes with a table microphone stand, XLR cable and 2 stereo RCA cables so that you only have to open the box, plug and play, and you’re on your way! – Jeff M
